Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using OwnRise. By creating an account or using our platform, you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. Who we are

OwnRise is a marketplace platform connecting homemakers (sellers) with local buyers. We are based in Espoo, Finland. OwnRise provides the platform — the contract for goods and services is between the buyer and the seller directly.

2. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using OwnRise, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

3. User accounts

  • 👤 You must be 18 years or older to sell on OwnRise
  • 🔐 You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure
  • 📧 One account per person — duplicate accounts are not permitted
  • ⚠️ You must provide accurate and truthful information when registering

4. For sellers

  • ✅ You are solely responsible for the quality, accuracy, and legality of what you sell
  • 🍽️ Home food sellers must comply with Finnish food safety law (Elintarvikelaki 297/2021) and register with local authorities if required
  • 💰 You keep your earnings minus OwnRise's service fee, which is shown at the time of listing
  • 🚫 OwnRise reserves the right to remove listings that violate these terms without notice
  • 📦 You are responsible for fulfilling orders on time and as described

5. For buyers

  • 💳 Payment is made at the time of placing an order
  • 📩 Contact the seller directly first if there is an issue with your order
  • 🤝 OwnRise can mediate disputes between buyers and sellers
  • ↩️ Refund eligibility depends on the individual seller's policy and Finnish consumer protection law

6. Prohibited content & conduct

The following are strictly not allowed on OwnRise:

  • ✕Illegal goods or services of any kind
  • ✕Misleading, fake, or duplicate listings
  • ✕Content that infringes copyright or intellectual property
  • ✕Harmful, offensive, or discriminatory content
  • ✕Spam or unsolicited commercial messages

Violations may result in immediate account suspension and reporting to authorities.

7. Liability

  • ⚖️ OwnRise is a platform — we are not a party to the contract between buyer and seller
  • 🚫 We are not liable for the quality, safety, or legality of goods and services sold
  • 💶 Our maximum liability is limited to the value of the specific transaction in dispute
  • 🔧 We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the platform

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by Finnish law. Any disputes that cannot be resolved directly will be referred to the competent courts of Finland. Consumers may also use the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes by email. Continued use of OwnRise after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
